Project overview

Project duration:

From contract signing to commissioning: 53 weeks.

Challenge:

Renovation of an outdated glass line to enhance ergonomics, versatility, and efficiency while fully maintaining production capacity during the works.

Objective:

Modernization of the dry section of the filling line with clear hygienic separation and increased buffer capacity for empty bottles and pallets.

Machines deployed:

  • Unipal 105: Depalletizer with special function for separating and handling empty pallets and returned reusable bottles in crates.
  • Unipack 103: Servo-motorized decrater on gantry principle.
  • Transport systems: Conveyors for containers, pallets, and crates, integrated into the existing facility.

Versatility:

Handling of eleven bottle types, including three reusable bottles.

Innovations:

  • Intuitive machine controls adapted to varying personnel.
  • Ultra-fast format change-overs.
  • Strict hygienic separation between wet and dry zones.

Planning and implementation:

  • Fast and precise layout planning by BMS.
  • System modularity and immediate availability of spare parts.

Phase 1 of works:

Renovation of the empty bottle line in just 2.5 tight weeks.

Challenges:

Factory floor reconstruction in parallel with machine installation.

Measurable successes:

  • Pallet buffer capacity doubled: from 7 to 14 on input and 14 on output.
  • Reduction of pallet reloading times to every 3–5 hours.
  • Increase in processing and buffer capacity to 73,000 bottles per hour. Hygiene: Exemplary separation between wet and dry zones.
